More frequently than ever before, doctors, pharmacists and other health care professionals (including office staff) are charged with federal drug distribution charges. Pain management practices are especially targeted. All doctors, no matter what specialty, that prescribe any opiate drugs should be especially vigilant in prescription practices. Medical office staff and pharmacy staff, especially those employed as managers or supervisors, are vulnerable as well. Commonly such persons are charged as co conspirators in an indictment that charges RICO (federal racketeering crime) conspiracy.
